An opportunity has arisen in this prestigious teaching hospital for highly motivated individuals to train and become qualified Pharmacy Technicians, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

You will join the Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician training programme, which will prepare you for your future career. This involves ‘on the job’ training, whilst working towards a GPhC approved qualification and assessments.

Duties

Duties and Responsibilities of the Trainee

  • Learn and practise pharmacy skills under supervision and also the values and principles of teamwork as a team member. Be supervised in each area of the agreed planned rota.
  • Agree learning objectives and review performance with the supervisor in each section and meet the learning contract requirements as agreed with the PreRegistration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Facilitator.
  • Develop the required knowledge, skills and attitudes of a pharmacy Technician in accordance with the Trust Values and Behaviours, the Professional Regulator’s Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Preregistration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (as written within the disciplinary policies).
  • Attend College each week on day release (on specified weekday for college learning), participate in private study, to meet the assessment requirements of the accredited underpinning knowledge course.
  • Produce suitable evidence of pharmacy work based practice over the two year period of the course. Participating in planned training and scheduled appraisals. Submit due evidences of work when required for assessment against the skills and competency based qualification standards.

Essential criteria

The following duties and responsibilities will be undertaken by the post holder under supervision and with assistance during training:

  • Learn and practice effective communication skills and attitudes towards customers, including patient counselling when appropriate.
  • Accurately dispense prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients in accordance with department procedures.
  • Learn and understand checking protocols in your dispensary area
  • Learn and practice self-checking and checking the work of others.
  • Contribute to the daily routine of the dispensary under the direction of the appropriate Senior Technician/Practise Supervisor/Trainer.
  • Make use of available resources, information and reference sources for answering or referring queries to a pharmacist or senior pharmacy technician experienced in the relevant area of pharmacy.
  • Learn, Practice and Participate in patient specific services at ward level (Medicines Management Programme).
  • Participate in the ward Omnicell Cycle Count Service.
  • Maintain appropriate recording systems within the department, including patient data entry, computerised issue and stock control. Thereby ensuring the required Security arrangements are met at all times according to the trust information governance, patient confidentiality and the data protection act 2018. ·
  • Work in accordance with all departmental procedures including Health and Safety.
  • Inform the Education Supervisor of any ‘trainee in difficulty’ problems and issues on the course as soon as they arise.
  • Inform the Education Supervisor of any rotational training issues as soon as they arise.
  • Inform the Education Supervisor of any other outside problems and issues if they are likely to affect progress on the course as soon as possible.
  • Participate fully in the development of own learning and proactively seek learning opportunities, meeting deadlines as agreed.
  • Fully participate in rotational and professional appraisals.
  • From time to time undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within capabilities of this job role and enhance the learning experience as and when directed by management
