The Position

A fantastic opportunity to join Surrey County Cricket Club, and The Kia Oval, as a Communications Executive for an exciting summer of cricket.

 

Surrey County Cricket Club is one of the most successful cricket clubs in the world, and its home – The Kia Oval – has one of the richest histories in sport. As a Members’ Club, we pride ourselves on being the most accessible and friendly Club in the world.

 

As part of the Communications Team, the Communications Executive helps tell engaging stories for use on the Club’s digital channels to grow fan and Member engagement and raise awareness of off-pitch activity.

 

Working with the Communications Manager, the Comms Exec will also support in the development and execution of an internal communications strategy for the Club’s staff.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about delivering best in-class storytelling through engaging copy, is able to develop relationships with multiple departments across the business and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key responsibilities of the role include copywriting for web, press release, member e-mails and internal channels; helping respond to fan queries and comments across all digital channels and maintaining a calendar of cricket and non-cricket milestones and events.

 

What you’ll do

  • Produce engaging written content for a variety of audiences
  • ensure the Club’s website is kept up to date and well-maintained including news stories, player biographies, sponsor content and ticketing information
  • manage the Club’s communications calendar ensuring all key milestones and events are acknowledged
  • attend all first team games to help co-ordinate comms activity
  • assist the Communications Manager where necessary in arranging and organising pre- and post-match interviews
  • Support content executive as necessary to produce articles for the website, including team news, match reports as well as off-pitch activities and updates
  • assist the wider organisation, such as the Member and Supporter Services and Marketing team, with copywriting support when and where appropriate
  • work closely with the Marketing department to assist in the promotion of Membership, T20 and International ticket sales.
  • work with the Club’s graphic designer to ensure that they are thoroughly briefed on any design requests, and support in the creation of some graphics
  • proactively seek new opportunities for stories to tell about the Club and the venue
  • Support in the management of incoming messages and monitor supporter activity across channels, responding to questions and comments from the public

Essential criteria

The successful candidate will have the following experience / skills / qualities:

 

This role will involve working on match-days and events which take place in the evening and weekends.

The role requires you to manage multiple projects, work towards deadlines and maintain a high level of quality. You will need to be comfortable taking ownership, using your own initiative, and managing your time effectively.

 

Essential:

  • excellent copywriting skills.
  • excellent organisational skills. Ability to work to strict pressured deadlines
  • accuracy even when under pressure
  • computer literate and confident in MS Excel; Word, Powerpoint and Outlook.
  • great team player
  • knowledge in reviewing, editing and posting copy
  • quick learner, confident to learn on your feet
  • motivated by a passion for quality and great customer service delivery
  • a “can-do”, customer-focused, proactive attitude

 

Desirable:

  • experience using Adobe Creative Cloud – particularly photoshop
  • venue knowledge
  • interest in sport and the sports industry
  • experience in using a CMS (preferably Wordpress)
  • experience in working at a professional sports club, organisation, or governing body
