Our Functional Skills English courses are designed to help you develop the English skills you need for everyday life, work and further study, while building your confidence.
The course focuses on three key areas:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking, Listening and Communicating
Functional Skills English qualifications are available at:
- Entry Level 1
- Entry Level 2
- Entry Level 3
- Level 1
- Level 2
Courses are delivered in various community settings.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible, you must:
- Be aged 19 or over
- Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
Before Starting
Before joining the course, you will need to complete:
- An Initial Assessment to identify your current English level
- An Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) session with our team
This will help us identify the most suitable level for you.

📚 Course runs: 2 days per week
✅ FREE for eligible learners aged 19+
Your place is subject to eligibility checks, assessment and successful enrolment. Your course level will be confirmed following your assessment.
Progression Opportunities
By achieving your Functional Skills English qualification, you may be able to progress:
- To the next level of the programme, for example Entry 3 to Level 1 or Level 1 to Level 2
- To another course
- Into employment, depending on your existing qualifications and experience
- To other vocational and career pathways, including apprenticeships or volunteering opportunities
By the end of the course, you will have developed greater confidence, motivation and English skills to support you in your community, in the workplace and in further learning.
