Job Overview:
A Hoist Driver is responsible for the safe operation of a hoist (lift) on construction sites, transporting materials, equipment, and personnel between different levels of the building. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure efficient site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hoist Operation:
- Operate the hoist equipment to transport materials and personnel between floors safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment as directed.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured and balanced before operation.
2. Safety Protocols:
- Follow all site safety procedures and regulations, ensuring the hoist is operated within safety limits.
- Regularly inspect the hoist for any mechanical or operational issues and report them to the site supervisor.
- Ensure that all passengers and materials are transported according to the load and weight restrictions of the hoist.
3. Communication:
- Coordinate with site personnel and signalers to ensure the safe and efficient movement of materials and people.
- Communicate any issues or delays in hoist operations to the relevant site manager or health & safety officer.
4. Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform basic checks on the hoist machinery, such as oil levels, brake functions, and controls, to ensure proper functionality.
- Keep the hoist clean, free from debris, and ensure regular scheduled maintenance is carried out.
5. Logistics and Scheduling:
- Manage the hoist schedule effectively, prioritizing materials, equipment, and worker movements based on site needs.
- Maintain accurate records of hoist usage, including the movement of materials and personnel, and report them to the site manager as needed.
6. Emergency Procedures:
- Be familiar with and prepared to act in accordance with emergency procedures in the event of equipment failure, accidents, or fire.
- Conduct evacuation drills or practices as required by site management.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Valid Hoist Operator certification, CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) card, or equivalent.
- Experience: Prior experience as a hoist driver or working on construction sites is preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of hoist machinery operation, site safety regulations, and construction logistics.
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with site workers.
- Ability to operate hoist machinery safely and efficiently.
- Problem-solving skills for handling equipment issues and site logistics.
