The ideal candidate does not have to be a sports coach, but an interest and understanding of sport to engage and inspire young people in the Criminal Justice System is essential. Background

3Pillars Project works within the Criminal Justice System, using sports based mentoring to engage young people in custody and beyond. Our approach is built on the philosophy that the three pillars of exercise, education and ethos provide an impactful base for effective rehabilitation. Our interventions are trauma informed. This is the start point for the programme.

Our Programmes

3Pillars Project delivers three projects and you will participate in a key role in all three.

1. The Rugby Academy is an in prison eight-week rugby course engaging young men (whom we refer to as apprentices), in custody. Our focus is on rehabilitation and supporting successful reintegration into society upon release from prison. The project emphasises a learn-by-doing approach to education and rehabilitation. The academy forms a pathway from prison, through the gate and into the community.

2. The Fitness Academy engages apprentices in the community. The fitness academy offers in person mentoring and training. During Covid it has expanded to include a range of online training, we are also able to offer level 2 gym instructor and level 3 personal trainer courses. Strength based mentoring and supporting the apprentice’s goals and aspirations is central to our approach. In parallel with the Fitness Academy, we run and maintain a community gym that supports the local community with sessions run by our apprentices.

3. The Leadership Academy is a progressional employment, education or training (EET) support programme. Here, the apprentice can learn and develop business and leadership Registered Charity: 3 Pillars Project CIO (1178703).
