Job purpose
To provide person-centred support to a 43-year-old man with autism, helping him with daily living and some personal care in a respectful, safe and dignified way. The Support Worker will promote his comfort, wellbeing, independence and routine, while working closely with his family and the current support person, who will help with induction and guidance.
Main duties and responsibilities
• Provide compassionate, person-centred support based on the individual’s needs, preferences and established routines.
• Support with some aspects of personal care, always maintaining dignity, privacy and respect.
• Assist with daily living tasks such as dressing, washing, meal preparation, light household tasks and maintaining a safe environment, where required.
• Build a positive, trusting and consistent working relationship.
• Use calm, clear and appropriate communication, adapting your approach to meet the needs of an autistic adult.
• Encourage independence and choice wherever possible.
• Support access to community activities, appointments or outings if required.
• Follow guidance, routines and care approaches already in place.
• Work alongside the current support person during induction and training to learn the individual’s needs, preferences and the best way to provide support.
• Observe and report any concerns about health, wellbeing, behaviour or safety to the family promptly.
• Maintain clear, professional boundaries and respect confidentiality at all times.
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety, manual handling and infection prevention guidance as required.
