Description

Step into a Security Operator role at the British Museum, where your vigilance protects something truly extraordinary.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility position requiring confidence, professionalism and genuine commitment to keeping people and places safe. You will be a trusted presence on site, working as part of a team that takes both security and the visitor experience seriously.

Duties

  • Monitor and control access to the premises, ensuring only authorised personnel are permitted entry

  • Conduct regular patrols to deter and detect signs of intrusion or suspicious activity

  • Respond promptly to alarms and incidents, providing first aid assistance when required

  • Prepare detailed reports on daily activities, incidents and any breaches of security protocol

  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary

  • Implement loss prevention strategies to minimise theft and damage to property

  • Maintain a visible, reassuring presence that supports both safety and the visitor experience

Essential criteria

You have worked in a museum, cultural venue or busy public-facing environment and you understand the balance between security and service. You’re physically fit, alert, composed under pressure and able to communicate clearly in writing and in person. You work well independently and as part of a wider team, and you carry yourself with the professionalism this environment deserves.

Required qualifications

Hold a valid Door Supervisor SIA Licence and have a recent DBS check in place.
