ob Title: Street Cleansing Operative Apprentice

Location: Lambeth Council, London, SE24 0PY 

Working Week: 39 hours a week, Monday – Friday 6:00– 14:00  
Salary: £24,680 per annum plus 25 days per annum 
Apprenticeship Qualifications: L2 Waste Resource Operative Apprenticeship 

Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 15 months 

As a Waste Resource apprentice, you will receive on-site training and assist with carrying out street cleaning functions within our Lambeth Council contract.

Duties

Day to day you’ll be involved in: 

 

  • Carrying out any of the street cleansing functions listed below but not exhaustive: Litter picking, scraping away weeds and detritus, digging out channels, manually sweeping and shovelling silt, removing flyposting, removing graffiti, emptying litter bins and removal of fly tipped waste. 

  • Segerating and sorting waste.  

  • During periods of inclement weather, participating in snow removal and gritting as directed by the Contract. 

  • Use of in-cab technology/ mobile device as directed by the Contract. Completing relevant templates and submitting worksheets in real time. 

  • To regularly report to line manager progress on works and any matters which arise affecting delivery.  

  • Using Streets Cleansing Carts and barrows as and when required 

  • Taking on adhoc or additional duties when required when there are limited resources within the team and assist where required across any of the SERCO sites as directed by the Manager. 

  • Attending monthly training sessions with our provider, Qdos. 

Essential criteria

We are keen to speak to candidates who are team players but do not shy away from working on their own initiative, taking responsibility for their own workload ensuring tasks are prioritised effectively; with the ability to work to strict deadlines whilst achieving a high level of accuracy.  Being confident and motivated to learn to repair and maintain HGV vehicles with an eye for attention to detail and a basic understanding of procedures along with the willingness to learn are key to be successful in this role.

The ideal candidate will have GCSE’S grades A* to C (or 9 to 4 in the new grading system) in Maths and English or the acceptable equivalent.

    Clean driver's license is desirable for all staff
