Are you a skilled tradesperson looking to work off-site?
Put your industry expertise to work in a new way. The Net Zero Futures Bootcamp will help you explore opportunities to teach construction and green skills to sixth formers and adults, while developing the knowledge and confidence to inspire the next generation.
Why teach?
Teaching gives you the opportunity to share your skills and experience while making a real difference in your community. With flexible and part-time roles available, it can be a rewarding way to support the development of others and contribute to the UK’s green skills agenda and environmental goals.
This opportunity is particularly relevant for experienced plumbers, electricians, carpenters and other tradespeople who are looking for a less physically demanding way to use their expertise.
This is not a teacher training course and does not provide a teaching qualification. If you move into a teaching role, you will be able to complete the appropriate teacher training through your employing college. The bootcamp is designed to introduce you to teaching while building your knowledge of net zero, sustainability and green technologies, which you can include in teaching across a range of subjects.
During the bootcamp, you will develop your understanding of net zero and explore how your industry knowledge could be used in a Further Education teaching environment.
Sessions include:
Sustainability, the circular economy and environmental impact
Energy use in buildings
Solar energy and green energy storage
Heat pumps and net zero heating and cooling systems
Energy Performance Certificates and net zero building systems
Applying net zero knowledge within Further Education teaching
Here's what you'll receive:
In-person delivery for three days plus a two-hour online session, every week for six weeks
Support with CVs, interviews and confidence building
Guaranteed job interviews with colleges and training providers
Lunch provided
This bootcamp could be right for you if you:
Have professional experience as an electrician, plumber, carpenter or in another skilled trade
Are considering a less physically demanding way to use your experience
Are interested in exploring a flexible new career in Further Education teaching
Want to share your industry knowledge with the next generation
Are interested in construction, sustainability and green skills
We may also consider applicants with relevant professional experience in other areas who could teach maths or another vocational subject.
