Duties

Job Purpose

The Female Personal Assistant will provide practical, flexible, and person-centred support to a neurodiverse mature student to help her manage daily living, study routines, appointments, and general wellbeing. The role is designed to promote independence, reduce stress, and support the student to succeed in her academic and personal life in a respectful and empowering way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day practical support with organisation, planning, and maintaining routines.
  • Support the student to establish and maintain a morning routine by providing prompts and encouragement to complete daily tasks.
  • Provide medication prompts and reminders in line with agreed guidance.
  • Assist with managing appointments, reminders, timetables, and important deadlines.
  • Offer support with attending university, training, or other educational commitments where required.
  • Help create and maintain a calm, clean, and structured environment that supports the student’s individual needs.
  • Support with tidying all rooms in the home, ensuring the fridge, kitchen, and living areas are kept clean and hygienic.
  • Assist with domestic tasks including washing clothes, changing bedding, taking out rubbish, sweeping, and washing up.
  • Provide support with local shopping, meal planning, and food preparation.
  • Ensure that drinks are within easy reach, that the student’s immediate areas are left clean and hazard-free, and that she is safe and comfortable before leaving.
  • Support with travel arrangements, attending appointments, or accompanying the student when appropriate.
  • Provide encouragement and emotional reassurance in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Support communication and help reduce overwhelm in busy or unfamiliar situations.
  • Respect the student’s dignity, privacy, preferences, and independence at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and work within agreed boundaries and guidance.

Person Specification

  • Experience of working in a support, care, education, or personal assistant role.
  • Understanding of neurodiversity and the importance of tailored, person-centred support.
  • Patient, calm, reliable, and non-judgemental approach.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to support with planning and structure.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Flexible, dependable, and responsive to changing needs.
  • Ability to work independently while following agreed instructions and routines.

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting neurodiverse adults or students.
  • Awareness of mental health and wellbeing needs.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by mature students balancing study and personal responsibilities.
  • Relevant training in support work, safeguarding, first aid, or health and social care is desirable.

Additional Information

This role requires a trustworthy, respectful, and compassionate female personal assistant who can provide consistent support while encouraging independence and self-confidence. A satisfactory DBS check may be required depending on the nature of the support arrangement.
