Description

This role is offered under the Kickstart Scheme, which is a Youth employment program through which we are able to offer 6 month long paid work placements for young people aged 16-24 and in receipt of Universal Credit.

MYsocial was set up by Age UK Lambeth to help people discover friendships, connect with their community, and do things that make them happy. Our goals are to have a real impact on the ability of older people to live independent lives, support their own well-being and actively contribute to society.

Being a MYSocial Event Planner & Host is a fun, flexible and social role.  The role includes being a friendly face to host group events aimed primarily at older adults.  You’ll be there to meet guests, chat with them and make sure they’re having a good time, and to make sure everyone feels welcome and happy.  This might include hosting a group on Zoom, or hosting a walk with older residents for example.  As the Event Planner & Host you will be helping to build connections and friendships between members, in their local neighbourhoods, which we hope will flourish and continue outside of events.

We’re not a support service and we don’t expect you to fulfill that role, however there may be times when you think a guess needs a referral to one of other AUKL teams, for example to help with their wellbeing.  Being kind, nice and good with people is therefore key to the role!

Your role will massively increase the capacity of our MYSocial team, meaning that thanks to your input we will be able to support more older residents.  For older residents in Lambeth this will translate to increased friendships and connections, decreased loneliness and isolation, and thus improved health and wellbeing.  Your time and commitment will build and strengthen our community reach and ability to help older residents locally.

We can offer you a friendly workplace with a dynamic team, supportive and experienced colleagues who can provide training and guidance, and supervision on the job to make sure your work is strong and that you are developing.

Important: Referrals onto Kickstart can be made only through DWP Work Coaches. Young people interested in Kickstart roles will therefore need to contact their DWP Work Coach with the vacancy details and ask to be referred in.
