Description

Procurement Strategy & Services is part of the Finance, Procurement, Strategy & Analytics Directorate and supports the university deliver best value from its spending, ensure effective management and payment of suppliers, and to promote sustainable contracting practices.

The Procurement Strategy and Services team is based at King’s Lavington Street office, and you will be able to work as part of the university’s hybrid working model with a mix of on-site and home working.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) to cover maternity leave and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 28/02/27.

Duties

Reporting to the Associate Director of Corporate Services Procurement, you will focus on supporting the Corporate Services category, which includes consultancy, HR-related services, marketing, library services, student support, H&S related services and graduation services.

You will support colleagues across the university on request for quotations and tendering activity through our e-tendering system (In-Tend), deal promptly with communications, analyse supplier spend data, support the requisition process on the university’s finance system (Business World – Unit 4), manage new supplier requests and maintain records within the category.

A key aspect of this role involves providing guidance to colleagues across the university and promoting best practice in procurement to deliver value for money and sustainable outcomes.

Essential criteria

  1. Ability to work on own initiative, problem solve and make decisions, maintaining attention to detail and high level of accuracy.  Also able to give advice and guidance to more senior colleagues to assist them in their decision-making process.

  1. Ability to research, manipulate and analyse spend data for interpretation by self and others.

  1. Ability to work independently to take ownership of tasks, plan and prioritise workload, ensuring a timely response and to meet deadlines.

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the written word, in person and on the telephone and the ability to write tailored reports.

  1. Numerate and IT literate with the ability to use the standard suite of office software.

  1. Understanding of Socially Responsible Procurement.

  1. Demonstrable recent experience of working in a procurement officer/assistant/advisor/consultant or similar related commercial role

  1. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of undertaking procurement activities for services and service contracts, ideally in Corporate Services

  1. Demonstrable experience of negotiation with suppliers to achieve savings and value through procurement activities

  1. Experience of using online procurement and e-tendering tools.
