About IRMO

IRMO is a community-led organisation that provides Latin Americans (and Spanish and Portuguese speakers more widely) with tools and information in an empowering process to build secure, independent and integrated lives in the UK using a rights-based approach. We do this through a flexible and comprehensive approach addressing a wide range of needs at a number of levels. Our work with the community spans three main areas ● Education, training and employment ● Advice ● Wellbeing/Children, Young people and families. Building on over three decades’ experience, we aim to build a stronger and more resilient community. More information can be found at www.irmo.org.uk

About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing organisation and be part of the Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF). Aimed at 13-19 year olds, LAYF supports young Latin Americans and Spanish and Portuguese speakers more widely to access education, training and employment, increase youth engagement, boost social and emotional capabilities and experience increased social cohesion. This project is delivered in partnership with Building Young Brixton (BYB), a consortium co-led by 9 Lambeth-based organisations, providing a broad and diverse offer for young people in the borough.

The project targets vulnerable young people (including NEETs and those who are working in low income positions) and consists of four main activities: (1) Creative ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes, (2) Skills/creative arts workshops, (3) In-depth career/education mentoring, and (4) engagement with BYB organisations through referrals and participation to joint activities/events. The Youth Worker will develop a dynamic activity programme and a consistent mentoring service, while working closely with the LAYF ESOL Teacher delivering ESOL classes and the Family Support Worker supporting secondary school admission.

LAYF has a bottom-up approach, and all activities are co-created with the young people.
