Description

• Advise and assist in the formation of Photofusion’s strategy, ensuring that financial planning and resources support the charity’s aims.

• Contribute to strategic discussions and risk management, particularly around financial sustainability and growth.

• Ensure the Board is aware of and complies with its financial duties and responsibilities under charity and company law.

• Review financial policies and procedures regularly, ensuring they remain effective and proportionate.

• Initiate and Chair a Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee.

• Contribute actively to the Board’s role in setting strategy, policy, and targets, and evaluating performance.

• Ensure the financial stability and proper use of the charity’s funds in pursuit of its objectives

Duties

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Trustees, responsible for maintaining effective governance of the charity’s financial affairs and ensuring its long-term sustainability. Working closely with the Director, Finance Manager and Board, the Treasurer provides strategic financial oversight, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, to support the charity achieving its creative and educational goals.

This voluntary role is ideal for someone with financial or accounting expertise who wishes to use their skills to support the arts, education, and community development.

Essential criteria

• Professional experience in finance, accounting, or business management (e.g. qualified accountant or equivalent experience).

• Understanding of charity finance, governance, and compliance.

• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues.

• Commitment to the values and mission of Photofusion Educational Trust.

• Willingness to dedicate time and expertise, including attending quarterly Board meetings and providing occasional additional support.

Desirable criteria

• Experience as a charity trustee or familiarity with the cultural, education, or creative sectors.

• Knowledge of fundraising, grant management, or small charity financial systems.

Additional information

• Approximately one meeting per month, including quarterly Board meetings (held in Brixton or online).

• This is a voluntary, unpaid position, but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed with prior approval.

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, renewable by mutual agreement.
