What is the overall job?

The Senior Data Engineering Manager will develop our engineering leads; they will strengthen our internal capability and ensure all engineering work, whether delivered internally or through partners, meets Multiplex standards and is ready for long-term operational success. 

Duties

  • Managing global engineering data platform, SharePoint, and Power Apps teams, ensuring clear purpose, consistent workflows and strong outcomes.
  • Leading high‑quality data engineering delivery by embedding strong engineering standards, enforcing sprint discipline and guiding planning activities.
  • Working collaboratively with DTO, IT, Product and Project teams to align priorities, unblock delivery and embed a data-driven culture.
  • Building internal capability through coaching, supportive feedback and targeted development to enhance engineering and leadership skills.
  • Overseeing vendor engineering teams to ensure output quality, alignment to Multiplex standards and value for money.
  • Ensuring smooth operations and service stability by leading Level 2/3 support practices and managing reliable service transitions.
  • Championing continual improvement; optimising tooling, processes and delivery practices across Databricks, Fabric, Azure and the broader platform ecosystem.

Essential criteria

What do you need to be successful in this role?

You will have extensive experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and managing others within complex delivery environments. You will bring proven capability working across multi‑vendor delivery models, alongside strong delivery experience across multiple squads with the ability to establish predictable and efficient sprint rhythms. With broad technical knowledge spanning Databricks, Fabric, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Azure and DevOps, you will confidently support service transitions and uplift engineering practices. You will also be experienced in maturing engineering functions, scaling high‑performing teams, and demonstrating strong communication and senior stakeholder management skills.

Required qualifications

  • Relevant Azure Certifications and additional certifications in data analysis, quality assurance, data management or related fields are valued.
  • A degree in computer science, IT or a related field is beneficial but not required—equivalent relevant experience is equally welcomed.
