As a Lambeth Apprentice, you will fully commit to the 20% off-the-job training requirements of the post alongside your normal day-to-day job. The post holder will complete a course of study and/or all learning and development requirements of the role.

Lambeth Apprentices are expected to take ownership of the tasks & projects set out by their line manager. Apprentices understand the importance of managing both professional and learning responsibilities.

Department Summary:

The DLO is a new service requested by our customers to carry out communal works primarily working externally on estates. You will work alongside a new team to embed and develop this new service working with other apprentices to as part of our commitment to create training opportunities.

Duties

  1. Work alongside trades operatives to assist with communal repairs.
  2. Develop your carpentry trades skill set by assisting in trade specific work and during the course of your apprenticeship begin to self-deliver completed communal repairs as an individual or as part of a team
  3. To work alongside qualified ‘carpenter’ mentors and assist in carrying out all types of carpentry works both internally and externally, aids and adaptations and remedial works in order to complete projects to the customer or client satisfaction as directed by line manager or other nominated designate. This role will involve construct, erect, install, renovate and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, wallboard and other materials, and cut, shape and fit timber parts to form structures and fittings.
  4. Use all necessary carpentry and multi skill tools plant and equipment associated with the post and carpentry duties undertaken.
  5. Manage materials as effectively as possible with regards to minimising waste, choice of specification and logistics.
  6. Use of handheld technology to manage communal work orders from issue to completion of work including any variations to works completed.
  7. Work alongside the DLO Management Team, Surveyors and administrators to provide limited technical advice to Lambeth Council staff in the performance of the neighbourhood contract specification
  8. Support additional day-to-day activities of the department, including office operations and diary management.
  9. Manage information including maintenance of document and IT systems, record & archive management and confidential file disposal.
  10. To communicate with stakeholders and partners as required, building relationships and contributing to the engagement activities of the department including supporting events and conferences. You will be an advocate for the department, sharing good practice and representing the aims and policies of Lambeth Council in a friendly and professional manner.
  11. Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are completed to agreed timescales with a high standard of accuracy.
  12. To meet all learning commitments of the apprenticeship as directed by your line manager, the Apprenticeships Manager or the learning/training provider. Assigned qualifications and an end point assessment must be completed. This can include presentations, portfolios, units of assessment and exams

 

 

Essential criteria

To be eligible for the Lambeth Council Apprenticeship Programme, you must be able to provide evidence of at least one of the following criteria:
• You are a current resident of the London Borough of Lambeth
• You are a current student at a Lambeth education institution (school, college, university,   PRU/alternative provision, Adult Learning provision)
• You are a former student at a Lambeth secondary education institution and completed at least one GCSE or equivalent Level 2 qualification there
• You are a current or former recipient of Lambeth leaving care services
• GCSE Mathematics & English grade (*A -C or equivalent)

A Lambeth Apprentice is expected to bring with them the following skills and a willingness to develop them further:

  2. Organisational Skills- The ability to manage your own workload and to work to team and project deadlines.
  3. Teamwork and Cooperation- The ability to work flexibly in a team and contribute to a supportive work environment.
  4. Adaptability and flexibility- Apprentice work in fluid, fast-paced & exciting environments. These skills are vital to responding to situations in the workplace.

Additional information

In addition:
 • You should not hold a qualification or have significant work experience in the same or similar subject at the same level or higher”
• You must be UK born or have held UK residency status for more than 3 years
• You must not be studying another apprenticeship or undertaking part-time or full-time funded study by programme commencement
